COVID-19: Federal health officials release updated modelling – January 14, 2022

Dr. Theresa Tam, Canada’s chief public health officer, and Dr. Howard Njoo, the deputy chief public health officer, hold a virtual technical briefing to discuss the most recent federal modelling data concerning the possible impact of COVID-19 in Canada. The new modelling suggests that the current surge of Omicron cases will push hospital admissions to extremely high levels in the coming weeks. Dr. Tam urges caution and consistency to help reduce the size of the surge and maintain the health-care system, including by limiting in-person contacts to household members as much as possible.
