Federal COVID-19 update: Canada signs deals with Pfizer, Merck for anti-viral drugs – Dec. 3, 2021
On Parliament Hill, federal ministers Jean-Yves Duclos (health) and Filomena Tassi (public services and procurement) provide an update on Canada’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic. They announce Canada has signed agreements with Pfizer and Merck to acquire doses of their new oral anti-viral COVID19 treatments, pending Health Canada authorization. Duclos also discusses the government’s new travel and testing measures that have been imposed to combat the spread of the Omicron variant. The ministers are joined virtually by Dr. Theresa Tam, Canada’s chief public health officer, and Dr. Howard Njoo, deputy chief public health officer.
