Dr. Deena Hinshaw, Alberta’s chief medical officer of health, provides an update in Edmonton on the provincial response to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. She is joined by Dr. Verna Yiu, president and CEO of Alberta Health Services. The update comes one day after Premier Jason Kenney declared a state of public health emergency, and announced Alberta would be introducing a COVID-19 proof of vaccination program starting on September 20 for certain non-essential activities. A negative test option will be offered as an alternative. New provincewide public-health restrictions will also come into effect on September 16. Additional measures that target businesses and events such as weddings and funerals will come into force on September 20.
