In St. John’s, Dr. Janice Fitzgerald, Newfoundland and Labrador’s chief medical officer of health, and John Haggie, minister of health, provide an update on the COVID-19 pandemic. The province is reporting 10 new COVID-19 cases. There are 19 confirmed cases connected to the cluster in the Roddickton area and that region will remain under alert level 3. Dr. Fitzgerald also announces the province will remain in Step 2 of its reopening plan for the time being, as it had not met its target of having 80 per cent of eligible residents fully vaccinated and the COVID-19 epidemiology is not favourable. September 15 marked the earliest day the province could have moved to Step 3.
