Federal ministers Maryam Monsef (women and gender equality and rural economic development) and Mélanie Joly (economic development and official languages) hold a virtual news conference to discuss a private member’s bill (C-233) that aims to criminalize sex-selective abortions. The bill is sponsored by Conservative MP Cathay Wagantall and would prohibit a medical practitioner from performing an abortion if the sole reason is based on the sex of the child. MPs are scheduled to vote on the bill in the House of Commons later in the day.
