MPs hold take-note debate on discovery of remains of 215 children in Kamloops – June 1, 2021
In the House of Commons, members of Parliament hold a take-note debate concerning the discovery of the buried remains of 215 children at the former site of the Kamloops Indian Residential School in British Columbia. NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh had sought an emergency debate, but House Speaker Anthony Rota denied the request. The Kamloops school, the largest in Canada’s residential school system, operated from 1890 to 1969. The Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc First Nation announced on May 27 that the presence of remains had been confirmed the previous weekend with the use of ground-penetrating radar.
