COVID-19 in Ontario: Update on second phase of vaccine rollout – January 13, 2021
In a news conference at Queen’s Park, Ontario Premier Doug Ford and Health Minister Christine Elliott provide an update on their government’s response to the ongoing COVID-19 (coronavirus disease) pandemic. They are joined by Sylvia Jones, Ontario’s solicitor general, and retired general Rick Hillier, chair of the province’s COVID-19 vaccine distribution task force. They outline the details regarding the second phase of COVID-19 vaccination rollout, which is expected to begin in March 2021. The Ontario government intends to immunize up to 8.5 million people, including essential workers and seniors, starting with the those over age 80, by the end of July 2021. The premier also says that the province’s goal is to vaccinate staff and residents of all Ontario’s long-term care homes before February 15, 2021.
