At Queen’s Park, Dr. Barbara Yaffe, Ontario’s associate chief medical officer of health, and Dr. Adalsteinn Brown, the dean of the Dalla Lana School of Public Health at the University of Toronto and the co-chair of Ontario’s COVID-19 Science Advisory Table, present the latest modelling data concerning the possible impact of the COVID-19 (coronavirus disease) pandemic in the province. The presentation comes ahead of an expected announcement by Ontario Premier Doug Ford concerning additional public-health measures aimed at slowing the spread of COVID-19. The data projects that over 1,500 COVID-19 patients could be admitted to intensive care units (ICU) by mid-January. The latest modelling also suggests that a “hard lockdown” could help lower the number of new daily cases below the 1000 threshold.
