COVID-19 in Alberta: Premier Jason Kenney announces new provincewide restrictions – December 8, 2020
In Edmonton, Alberta Premier Jason Kenney and provincial cabinet ministers Tyler Shandro (health) and Doug Schweitzer (jobs, economy and innovation) provide an update on their government’s response to the ongoing COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic. They are joined by Dr. Deena Hinshaw, Alberta’s chief medical officer of health. In his remarks, the premier announces a number of new provincewide public-health measures aimed at curbing the spread of COVID-19. Measures taking effect immediately include mandatory mask use in indoor public settings and a ban on all social gatherings. Measures taking effect on December 13, 2020, include a ban on indoor dining at bars and restaurants, mandatory work-from-home arrangements, new occupancy limits for retail stores and places of worship, and the complete closure of businesses such as museums, fitness centres, hair salons, and casinos.
