Deputy PM Chrystia Freeland and ministers discuss new emergency rent subsidy – November 23, 2020
Chrystia Freeland, the deputy prime minister and minister of finance, speaks with reporters on Parliament Hill. She is joined via videoconference by ministers Diane Lebouthillier (National Revenue) and Mary Ng (small business). They discuss the Canada Emergency Rent Subsidy (CERS), the federal government’s new commercial rent-relief program that provides aid directly to tenants amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Businesses are now able to start applying for the federal subsidy for the period from September 27 to October 24, 2020. Applications for the second CERS period (October 25 to November 21, 2020) will start on November 30.
