Tranquille Road Reopens to all Traffic Monday, November 23
Kamloops, BC – As work on the Tranquille Road Sanitary Main Upgrade Project (Phase 2) nears completion for this year, motorists are advised that Tranquille Road between Southill Street and Nicolani Drive will reopen to all traffic on Monday, November 23. At that time, all detours will be removed and the normal posted speed limit of 60 km/hr on this stretch of Tranquille Road will resume. All bus stops on Tranquille Road will be open.
During the week of November 23, there will be temporary lane closures and speed restrictions during the day on Tranquille Road between Holt Street and Singh Street as crews complete work on the centre median and the Goodwin Avenue retaining wall.
Motorists are advised of several lane improvement configurations that were implemented as part of the Tranquille Road project:
- Between Southill Street and Desmond Street, motorists will now see one travel lane eastbound and one westbound with a centre lane dedicated to left-hand turns.
- At the Desmond Street/Tranquille Road intersection, eastbound motorists will now see a single through lane and a dedicated left-turn lane. Westbound motorists will now see a single through lane and dedicated left and right-turn lanes.
In addition, a new multi-use pathway was constructed on the south side of Tranquille Road between Southill Street and Desmond Street, and a new bus bay pull-out was constructed west of the Desmond Street/Tranquille Road intersection.
These improvements were implemented to provide a safer corridor for motorists, pedestrians, and active transportation.
Extreme Excavating Ltd. and crews will resume work on the Tranquille Road project next spring and summer, replacing the sanitary gravity main and completing intersection and boulevard improvements between Singh Street and 12th Street. Remaining landscaping work on Tranquille Road from Southill Street to Singh Street will also be completed next spring.
The Tranquille Road Sanitary Main Upgrade Project (Phase 2) involves replacing the sanitary gravity main along Tranquille Road from Southill Street to 12th Street and upgrades along the corridor, including pedestrian paths, landscaping, and intersection and boulevard improvements.
The project was originally slated to start in March this year but was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The project started in May 2020 and is anticipated to be complete in fall 2021.
The City and Extreme Excavating Ltd. recognize the impact the Tranquille Road project has had on Brocklehurst residents and businesses, as well as motorists, transit users, and pedestrians travelling within the project limits, and sincerely appreciate everyone’s support and patience throughout this year’s work.
