Speaking with reporters in Winnipeg, Manitoba Health Minister Cameron Friesen provides an update on ongoing investigation at Maples Long Term Care Home, where eight residents passed away the week before over a period of 48 hours amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Minister Friesen announces that the province has appointed Dr. Lynn Stevenson as an expert adviser to lead the review of the situation at the home and to indicate how Manitoba’s long-term care home system can be strengthened. On November 9, the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority said they had been misled by the company that runs the personal care home about the number of staff available on November 6, when paramedics responded to multiple emergency calls at the home.
