NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh discusses party's proposed wealth tax – November 5, 2020

NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh takes part in a conversation in Ottawa with economist Angella MacEwen about his party’s proposal to implement taxes for wealthy Canadians and excess profits for large corporations. Singh speaks with reporters following the discussion.

The NDP is using its first opposition day of the new parliamentary session to seek support for a one-per-cent tax on wealthy Canadians with a net worth over $20 million and an excess profit tax on large corporations that the party says are “profiteering” from the COVID-19 pandemic. The party says the estimated billions of dollars recouped from these new tax measures should be used to expand income security programs, put in place dental care and pharmacare programs and fund an Indigenous housing strategy.
