In Edmonton, Tyler Shandro, the Alberta minister of health, discusses the Health Statutes Amendment Act (Bill-46) that he will table at the Legislative Assembly of Alberta later in the day. This bill proposes amendments to four pieces of legislation, including the Health Professions Act and the Health Information Act. If adopted, the bill will clarify the roles of regulatory colleges and professional associations in order for them to work separately. This bill also proposes the creation of a central online public registry where Albertans will be able to search for a health provider. Bill-46 would also enable Alberta Health Services to use electronic health records for a broader set of uses.
