Federal Innovation Minister Navdeep Bains speaks with reporters in Toronto after announcing an investment in zero-emission energy technology. He is joined via videoconference by Natural Resources Minister Seamus O’Regan and by Terrestrial Energy CEO Simon Irish. The federal government is investing $20 million in Terrestrial Energy to help the Ontario-based company commercialize its small modular reactor (SMR) technology. The government says SMR technology will play a key role in helping Canada achieve its goal of reaching net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.
