City of Kamloops Reminds Residents of Hazardous Waste Roundup Event Tomorrow
The City of Kamloops wants to remind residents to safely dispose of household hazardous waste items.
The City, in partnership with the Thompson-Nicola Regional District, is hosting a free event tomorrow to provide residents an opportunity to drop off various hazardous items to safely dispose of old cleaners, chemicals, and unknown products.
Household Hazardous Waste Roundup Event
Saturday, October 3, 10:00 am–3:00 pm
Location: Along Mission Flats Road just before the landfill
Important information for this year’s event:
• Prepare an easily accessible load (i.e. box in the trunk of a car or truck box).
• Remain in your vehicle—staff will unload your items, but please note staff will not be accessing back seats of vehicles to collect items.
• Expect longer wait times as we follow COVID-19 protocols.
• Commercial volumes of materials will not be accepted.
“Hazardous materials are a major safety concern when placed in garbage and recycling collection containers. They can cause explosions and fires and needlessly put City staff and the workers in the recycling and landfill industry at risk,” said Allan Michener, the City’s Environmental Services Supervisor.
There are a number of programs to responsibly recycle and dispose of hazardous items, such as lithium-ion batteries, household batteries, propane canisters, flammable liquids, paint, needles, electronics, and ammunition year-round at specific depots/locations.
Visit Kamloops.ca/HazardousWaste or download the Waste Wise app to search items and to learn where to recycle these items year-round.
