In a news conference at Queen’s Park, Ontario Premier Doug Ford announces $461 million to give over 147,000 eligible personal support workers (PSWs) a temporary pay increase. Effective October 1, eligible workers in home and community care, long-term care as well as children, community and social services will receive an extra $3 per hour. Eligible workers in public hospitals will receive a $2 per hour pay bump. The pay increase will be reviewed on a regular basis and could extend through March 31, 2021. The premier is joined by provincial cabinet ministers Christine Elliott (health) and Dr. Merrilee Fullerton (long-term care), as well as Dr. David Williams, Ontario’s chief medical officer of health. Their update comes amid new provincial COVID-19 modelling that projects up to 1,000 new daily cases by mid-October
