At a news conference in Winnipeg, Manitoba Premier Brian Pallister and Scott Fielding, Manitoba’s minister of finance, provide an update on the province’s fiscal situation in light of the economic impact of the COVID-19 (coronavirus disease) pandemic. The finance minister reports the province has a $5 million dollar budget surplus for the 2019-20 fiscal year, though a deficit of around $2.9 billion is projected for the period of 2020-21.
