Federal ministers comment on death of Joyce Echaquan – September 29, 2020
Indigenous Services Minister Marc Miller and Crown-Indigenous Relations Minister Carolyn Bennett react to the death of Joyce Echaquan, an Atikamekw woman who died on September 28 in a hospital in Joliette, Quebec. The 37-year-old mother of seven recorded a video while she was dying and pleading for help. Her video shows hospital staff making racist and insulting comments. Quebec’s coroner will investigate the circumstances into her death. A nurse involved in her treatment has been fired and the Quebec government has ordered an administrative probe.
