MPs on security for parliamentarians, COVID-19 aid bill – September 28, 2020
NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh responds to questions from reporters in Ottawa about the government’s revised bill to implement new COVID-19 benefits. He also comments on protective services provided on Parliament Hill, following recent reports of harassment incidents targeting parliamentarians and members of the press.
Parliamentary Protective Services (PPS) said in a statement that it would be increasing its presence and visibility in wake of the incidents. A video posted to social media on September 25 showed a man following Singh near Parliament Hill, asking if the NDP leader would like to be arrested. The same individual was also filmed trying to make a citizen’s arrest the day before on a Radio-Canada reporter. Fisheries Minister Bernadette Jordan and Conservative MP Pierre Poilievre also comment regarding security on Parliament Hill.
