Business groups call for extension of emergency wage subsidy – September 17, 2020
In Ottawa, representatives from Canada’s tourism and hospitality industries call on the federal government to extend the Canada Emergency Wage Subsidy (CEWS) in light of ongoing revenue losses due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In July, the federal government extended the subsidy until December 19, 2020. The Coalition of Hardest Hit Businesses is calling for the program to be extended until spring or summer 2021, and for an increase of the subsidy rate for businesses most affected by the pandemic.
Speaking at the news conference are Charlotte Bell (president and CEO, Tourism Industry Association of Canada); Keith Henry (president and CEO, Indigenous Tourism Association of Canada); Martin Roy (executive director, Festivals and Major Events Canada); and Susie Grynol (president and CEO, Hotel Association of Canada).
