COVID-19: Premier Doug Ford says Ontario will take control of 5 long-term care homes – May 27, 2020
In a news conference at Queen’s Park, Ontario Premier Doug Ford, Health Minister Christine Elliott, and Long-Term Care Minister Merrilee Fullerton provide an update on their government’s response to the ongoing COVID-19 (coronavirus disease) pandemic. In his remarks, the premier announces that the province will take over management of five long-term care homes that have been seriously impacted by COVID-19. Four of those homes were cited in a Canadian Armed Forces report that documented dire conditions in residences where the military had been deployed to provide assistance. Premier Ford also indicates that a previously announced independent commission into long-term care homes, originally scheduled to begin in September, will commence its work in July.
