Yukon announces aid for essential workers, eases more restrictions – May 22, 2020

In Whitehorse, Sandy Silver, the premier of Yukon, Ranj Pillai, Yukon’s economic development minister, and Dr. Brendan Hanley, Yukon’s chief medical officer of health, provide an update on the territory’s response to the COVID-19 (coronavirus disease) pandemic. The Yukon government will provide a wage top-up for essential workers who make less than $20 per hour. Employees must agree they will not receive the Canada Emergency Response Benefit (CERB) during the 16-week period that they are receiving the top-up. Personal services businesses such as hair salons can reopen on May 27. Restaurants will be able to offer dine-in services on May 29. All businesses must have an operational plan that is approved by the government.
