PM Justin Trudeau provides update on federal response to COVID-19 – May 19, 2020

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau addresses Canadians from outside his home in Ottawa about the federal government’s response to the ongoing COVID-19 (coronavirus disease) pandemic. He announces that Canada and the United States have agreed to a 30-day extension of the agreement to close their shared border to non-essential travel due to COVID-19 and that restrictions will remain in place until at least June 21. The prime minister also announces an expansion to the eligibility criteria for the Canada Emergency Business Account (CEBA) to include sole owner-operators, businesses that rely on contractors, and family-owned businesses with employees paid via dividends.
