PM Trudeau on CCB increase, vaccine clinical trials, Canadian Red Cross funding – May 16, 2020
In a news conference outside his home in Ottawa, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau discusses the federal government’s response to the ongoing COVID-19 (coronavirus disease) pandemic, including an increase to the Canada Child Benefit (CCB) in July for the upcoming year. The prime minister also announces that Health Canada has approved the first Canadian trials for a potential COVID-19 vaccine. The trials will take place at the Canadian Center for Vaccinology at Dalhousie University in Nova Scotia. The prime minister also unveils up to $100 million in funding to the Canadian Red Cross to support the organization’s COVID-19 response, as well as its flooding and wildfire relief efforts.
