City of Kamloops Wins Recognition Provincially in Public Works

Westsyde Spray Park Receives Tire Stewardship BC Community Grant

Kamloops, BC – This spring, the Westsyde Spray Park will get an updated play surface that is made of recycled scrap tire materials.

The City of Kamloops received a $18,337 grant from the Tire Stewardship BC 2020 Community Grant Program toward the construction of a recycled rubber surface to replace the concrete surface at the spray park to improve safety and accessibility.

“A rubberized spray park surface was chosen to significantly improve the safety and accessibility for all users compared to the existing concrete,” commented Jeff Putnam, the City’s Parks and Civic Facilities Manager. “The material also boasts the environmental benefits of using recycled materials and the reduced need for maintenance.”

The new play surface will be installed next week, while the playground and splash park are closed to the public due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Please monitor the City’s website for details on potential opening dates for the spray park.
