Kamloops, BC – With the asphalt plant opening for the season, milling and paving of Victoria Street West from the Overlanders Bridge west to the Mission Flats/Summit Drive intersection will begin the week of May 4.
The work will be completed in three phases. Crews will be milling (removing the asphalt) in all three phases on Tuesday, May 5. Paving of all three phases is scheduled for Friday, May 8, weather permitting. The week of May 11 crews will be line painting and doing clean-up. Some temporary road closures and detours will be in place to accommodate the work. Motorists are asked to obey traffic control personnel and signage and to expect delays in this area. The Victoria Street West Improvements Project currently remains on schedule for completion by summer 2020. All third-party utility service changeovers from the old services to new services are now complete. Asphalt patching; concrete pouring for sidewalk panels; and landscaping work, including planting beds and fencing, continues throughout the corridor.
Upcoming work includes removing all utility poles along Victoria Street West, installing pedestrian signals at the crosswalks in front of The Mustard Seed and Sun Life, and installing the remaining lamp standards.
Motorists are reminded that the 30 km/hr reduced speed limit is in place throughout the entire Victoria Street West construction zone.
With the COVID-19 pandemic, the City, Extreme Excavating Ltd. and the project’s subcontractors are taking every precaution to help ensure the safety of crews and the general public within the Victoria Street West construction site, including reducing crew numbers and following the guidelines for social distancing.
