Ontario premier announces pandemic pay for frontline workers – April 25, 2020



In a news conference at Queen’s Park, Ontario Premier Doug Ford announces that his government will provide a temporary pay increase to frontline workers during the ongoing COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic. Eligible workers will receive a $4 per hour premium on top of their regular hourly wages for 16 weeks from April 24, 2020 until August 13, 2020. Eligible workers include employees in long-term care homes, shelters, and correctional facilities, as well as certain hospital staff. The premier is joined at the news conference by provincial cabinet ministers Christine Elliott (health), Dr. Merrilee Fullerton (long-term care), and Peter Bethlenfalvy (the president of the Treasury Board).
