Deputy PM and health minister provide update on coronavirus and new cabinet committee

Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland and Health Minister Patty Hajdu update reporters on the federal response to coronavirus (COVID-19). They are joined by Canada’s chief public health officer and deputy, Dr. Theresa Tam and Dr. Howard Njoo.

Freeland chairs the newly-created cabinet committee on Canada’s coronavirus response. The commmittee held its first meeting prior to the news conference and it is meant to complement the work done by the government’s Incident Response Group. The eight members of the committee will meet regularly to monitor the health and economic impacts of the virus. As of March 3, there are 33 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Canada.
