Fed. govt unveils revised medical assistance in dying legislation

Justice Minister David Lametti, Health Minister Patty Hadju and Employment, Workforce Development and Disability Inclusion Minister Carla Qualtrough speak with reporters in Ottawa following the tabling of the government’s changes to Canada’s medical assistance in dying legislation. The new legislation is in response to a September 2019 Quebec court ruling, which found that restricting access to only those whose natural deaths are “reasonably foreseeable” was unconstitutional. The ruling comes into effect in Quebec on March 12 unless the federal government’s request for a four-month extension is granted.
