Death of an inmate from Pacific Institution

February 11, 2020 – Abbotsford, British Columbia – Correctional Service Canada

On February 8, 2020, Daniel Martin Baines, an inmate from Pacific Institution died while in our custody.

At the time of his death, Mr. Baines, 49 years old, had been serving a sentence of 4 years, 7 months and 16 days for Utter Threat to Cause Death/Harm, Break and Enter with Intent, and other offences since September 21, 2015.

The inmate’s next of kin have been notified of his death.

As in all cases involving the death of an inmate, Correctional Service Canada (CSC) will review the circumstances. CSC policy requires that the police and the coroner be notified.
