Trudeau is spending 19% less on affordable housing than the Conservatives did « Canada’s NDP

The Parliamentary Budget Office says that under Trudeau’s plan, spending on affordable housing is 19% less than under Harper’s plan as a percentage of GDP. (PBO, Page 4)
Meanwhile, Trudeau is giving $14 billion in giveaways to big corporations.
Recently, University of Toronto Professor David Hulchanski called out Trudeau:
“The Liberal Party and even CMHC have mixed all these together into big sounding amounts, as if a great deal is happening. But not much is happening in terms of meeting housing need and existing spending on housing remains at a historically low percentage of the federal budget.” (Globe and Mail)
And last week, a report notes that experts agree that Trudeau is doing “little to help” growing challenges with homelessness. (Ottawa Citizen)
Justin Trudeau’s pretty words don’t build homes.
Jagmeet Singh has a New Deal for People that would build 500,000 units of quality, affordable housing.
NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh:
“Across this country, I hear from people struggling to keep a roof over their heads. We need to do better to make sure that everyone has a safe and affordable place to call home. That’s why New Democrats will make affordable housing a priority, and work with communities to expand and improve existing housing, to reduce energy demand, create jobs and save people money every single month.”
